Democratic Representative Brad Schneider leads Republican challenger Carl Lambrecht by 3,175 votes in Illinois' 10th Congressional District. Early tallies show Schneider with 4,765 votes and Lambrecht with 1,590 as of 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. These figures represent 75 percent and 25 percent of the reported count, respectively.

Polls closed at 7 p.m., and officials began tallying ballots shortly after. The district covers portions of Cook, Lake, and McHenry counties. It includes communities such as Libertyville, Grayslake, Gurnee, Mundelein, Highland Park, Deerfield, Lake Forest, and Waukegan. The winner will serve a two-year term in the U.S. House starting in January 2027. Results remain unofficial until certified by election authorities.

Schneider, 65, has represented the district since 2017. He previously served from 2013 to 2015. Lambrecht, 93, is an optical engineer from Highland Park. He ran unsuccessfully for the Illinois House in 2024. According to a Daily Herald report from October 28, Lambrecht maintained a limited public presence. The newspaper noted he had no campaign website or social media pages. He did not promote public appearances or respond to media inquiries. He also did not disclose fundraising or spending to the Federal Election Commission or file a standard statement of candidacy.

Schneider identified affordability as the district's most pressing issue in a questionnaire submitted to Patch. He pointed to rising costs for groceries, housing, utilities, childcare, and healthcare. He advocated for expanding affordable housing and lowering healthcare costs. He also pushed for investments in infrastructure, American manufacturing, and workforce development. Schneider criticized President Donald Trump's tariff policies, arguing Congress should reclaim authority over international trade.

On immigration, Schneider called for comprehensive reform. This would combine border security with improvements to the legal system and a pathway to citizenship for certain longtime immigrants. He stated he does not support the Trump Administration's extreme, aggressive deportation campaign. Schneider also supported greater federal oversight of artificial intelligence. He proposed safeguards to prevent data center development from increasing electricity costs for surrounding communities.

Lambrecht's current policy positions are less documented. During his 2024 Illinois House campaign, he raised concerns about fentanyl trafficking, criminal cartels, and sex trafficking. He previously ran unsuccessfully for the Highland Park-Deerfield High School District 113 board in 2011. He won a seat on the Lake County Regional School Board in 2013, according to the Daily Herald.

Schneider's lead is based on early returns. Election officials continue to process ballots. The final certified count will determine the next representative for the district.
