2025 rookie running back class posts 246 yards in Week 6
The group’s output has collapsed since a record-setting 737 yards in Week 4 of the 2025 season, with only one weekly total above 600 yards since that breakout.

The 2025 rookie running back class rushed for 246 combined yards in Week 6 of the 2026 season.
That figure marks the lowest single-week total for the group so far this year. The class previously set a record by totaling 737 yards in Week 4 of the 2025 season. No other set of rookie rushers had reached that mark in a September week since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.
Production has remained low since that early burst. The group has topped 600 yards in a single week only once since Week 4 of 2025. Injuries and benchings have limited the playing time of several key players. Corey Kiner, an undrafted free agent and third-string option for the Patriots, led the class in rushing yards during Week 6.
Ashton Jeanty of the Raiders illustrates the class’s broader struggles. Drafted at No. 6 overall, Jeanty was selected ahead of offensive linemen and tight ends. He has turned 372 carries into 1,303 yards over his first year and a half. That pace equates to 3.5 yards per attempt.
Jeanty’s efficiency metrics rank at the bottom of the league among backs with at least 150 carries since the start of 2025. He has a minus-0.27 expected points added per rush attempt. His success rate stands at 32.8%, placing him second to last in the league. He also holds the worst mark in first downs over expectation, at minus-16.
The Raiders’ offensive line continues to present challenges for Jeanty. He was hit at or behind the line of scrimmage 47.2% of the time in 2026. A league-high 91.3% of his rushing yardage came after initial contact. He has no carry longer than 20 yards and has only five runs of 10 yards or more on 105 attempts. That 4.8% clip is less than half the league average of 10.3% for backs with at least 60 carries.
Jeanty has struggled in short-yardage situations where consistency is required. Running backs convert about 66% of their attempts on plays with one or two yards to go. Jeanty has converted 45% of the time, the worst mark among backs with at least 20 such attempts since the start of 2025. He has lost or gained no yardage on 26.4% of his carries, a league-high figure.
The Raiders’ fourth-round pick Mike Washington Jr. has outperformed Jeanty in this same offense. Washington averages 4.9 yards per carry and has recorded two explosive runs of 20 or more yards. Jeanty has found success as a receiver, posting 34 catches for 312 yards and three touchdowns. However, he has dropped five passes, including three in a single game against the Chargers.
