The Houston Texans have lost their top receiving option to a turf toe injury, a blow that leaves the offense vulnerable as the team navigates a 2-5 start to the 2026 regular season. Wide receiver Jaylin Noel was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, ending his campaign after suffering the injury in Sunday's loss to the New York Giants.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans first disclosed the injury immediately following the game against the Giants. Subsequent medical evaluations indicated the severity of the turf toe injury, leading the coaching staff to move Noel to the injured reserve list. Multiple reports, including those from the Houston Chronicle and insider Aaron Wilson, state that Noel will undergo surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Noel had been the Texans' leading pass catcher early in the year. He accumulated 331 receiving yards and averaged more than 17 yards per reception. His absence follows the season-ending ACL tear suffered by fellow receiver Jayden Higgins during training camp. This sequence of events has depleted the depth in the receiving corps, removing a key component of the return game and a primary target for the quarterback.
The coaching staff must now determine who will assume the slot responsibilities previously held by Noel. Tank Dell returned to the field in the Sunday matchup and may see an increased snap count. Marvin Harrison Jr. is preparing for his third game with the franchise. These adjustments aim to distribute the ball and reduce the reliance on Nico Collins, the team's primary wideout.
The Texans return to practice on Monday to begin preparations for their next fixture. They will travel to Los Angeles to face the currently winless Chargers on November 8.
