A professional footballer died from injuries sustained in a match collision, and his family has arranged for his final rites to take place in central Spain. Jesús de Miguel Alameda, the 30-year-old forward for CD Tenerife, passed away on November 3, 2026, following a severe impact with the opposing goalkeeper.
De Miguel suffered the injury on November 2 during a match against FC Andorra. He attempted to head the ball while Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono left his penalty area. Owono jumped and struck De Miguel in the chest with his knee. De Miguel collapsed on the pitch and was immediately attended to by medical staff. He was transported to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria, where doctors placed him in the intensive care unit.
The club confirmed his death at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3. The family requested that his remains be moved from the island of Tenerife to Navahermosa in the province of Toledo. This location is where his relatives reside. The funeral service will be private and reserved for family, friends, and teammates.
The transfer of the body awaits final authorization from local authorities. The CD Tenerife board and players plan to travel to Toledo to accompany the family during the burial. In the meantime, the club organized a public tribute mass at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, the venue where the accident occurred.
The mass is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on November 7. It is open to the public, and club officials, players, and local institution representatives will attend. De Miguel’s wife and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Carla, are expected to participate. The club stated that his widow will play a central role in supporting the family during these events.
The Tenerife island government declared an official day of mourning. Fans have gathered at Gate 9 of the stadium to leave flowers, candles, and written messages in his memory. The club is coordinating the logistics for the body’s transfer, ensuring the family can hold the service in the environment they requested.
