Residents in 15 new ZIP codes across South Sarasota County will have access to United Way Suncoast services starting Wednesday. The expansion adds Venice, North Port, Nokomis, Laurel, and Osprey to the organization's current footprint. Parts of Englewood located within Sarasota County are also included in the new service area.
United Way Suncoast announced the move on Wednesday. The group stated that the change allows it to connect residents with resources and support regional collaboration. The organization acts as the fiscal agent for 211 Suncoast Cares, an information and referral network serving Sarasota, Manatee, and DeSoto counties. This role continues as the service area grows.
The expansion is linked to a transition in disaster response operations. United Way South Sarasota County is finalizing the handover of its disaster work to another approved provider working with Volunteer Florida. United Way Suncoast said it is coordinating with United Way Charlotte County and United Way of Florida to maintain local programs. This includes ongoing support for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Service boundaries remain distinct for adjacent counties. United Way Charlotte County will continue to serve all ZIP codes in Charlotte County. This includes portions of Englewood that fall within that county's lines. The split ensures that each region receives tailored support based on local needs.
The organization cited the goal of matching services to community requirements as a primary driver for the expansion. By increasing its geographic reach, United Way Suncoast aims to streamline referrals for residents in the newly added areas. The change reflects a shift in how regional aid organizations allocate their operational resources.
