Fire crews extinguished a blaze inside a restaurant at George Bush Intercontinental Airport Tuesday.
The incident forced a partial evacuation of Terminal C. Smoke rose visibly from the terminal structure. Airport staff moved passengers from the north side of the terminal as a precautionary measure.
No injuries were reported during the event. Fire investigators are currently determining the cause of the flames. The number of gates affected by the closure has not been confirmed. Officials have not stated whether the entire terminal has reopened.
United Airlines is operating its full flight schedule for Wednesday morning. No delays were reported as of the early morning hours. However, the carrier is using different gates to accommodate its operations. Flights are now departing from Terminal C South, Terminal D, and Terminal E.
Travelers are advised to verify their terminal and gate assignments before leaving their homes. This step is required even if the flight is scheduled to depart on time. The airport also recorded dozens of flight delays and a few cancellations. It is unclear if those disruptions were directly linked to the fire.
The event occurred on Tuesday. Wednesday morning operations are proceeding with adjusted gate assignments. Passengers must monitor their specific flight details to avoid missing connections.
