Walmart has filed plans for a $400 million distribution center in Cibolo, placing a major new industrial anchor just off Interstate 10 in Guadalupe County. The project, code-named Project Theo, will occupy more than 712,000 square feet. That footprint equals the size of roughly 16 football fields.

The company selected the site at 3641 S. Santa Clara Road. This address previously housed the San Antonio Raceway. Google Maps and Yelp currently list the raceway as permanently closed. A call to the facility confirmed the phone number is no longer in service.

Cibolo sits at the intersection of two major highways, Interstate 35 and Interstate 10. This location makes it a frequent choice for manufacturers and logistics firms. The city notes that dozens of industrial companies already operate there. These businesses produce items ranging from heavy machinery to shopping carts and bulletproof glass.

Walmart already maintains a presence in the region. The company operates 38 stores in the San Antonio area. It also runs a distribution center in New Braunfels that serves stores along the I-35 corridor. A typical distribution center employs hundreds of workers.

Global operations provide context for the scale of the new build. Walmart’s company profile states that approximately 270 million customers visit its stores or websites weekly. The company reported fiscal year 2025 revenue of $681 billion. It employs about 2.1 million associates across 19 countries.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2027. Completion is expected by August 2029. The project follows a similar investment by Japanese transmission manufacturer Aisin. Aisin opened a 500,000-square-foot plant in Cibolo in 2019. That facility brought $400 million in investment and 900 new jobs to the city.
