White Lake police are searching for three individuals who allegedly stole merchandise from a Highland Road business on Tuesday evening. Officers halted a high-speed vehicle chase around 7:13 p.m. to protect the public, leaving the suspects in a U-Haul van at large.
The investigation began when officers arrived at the 10000 block of Highland Road to investigate a retail fraud in progress. The three suspects fled the scene in a U-Haul, traveling west on Highland Road before turning south onto Elizabeth Lake Road. A police pursuit followed the vehicle to Union Lake Road.
Police ended the chase due to high speed, heavy traffic, and reckless driving by the van operator. The driver struck a no parking sign during the escape. Authorities determined the group loaded more than $1,000 in stolen goods into the vehicle, which included BB guns and clothing.
A lookout alert has been sent to area law enforcement agencies. Police describe the suspects as a White male in his 40s with a small, faded neck tattoo under his right ear, and a lighter-toned Black male, possibly a teenager, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall with a missing front tooth. Both males wore dark clothing.
The third suspect is a White female, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a lean build. She was wearing black leggings and a white or light gray coat. The White Lake Police Department declined to name the specific business involved in the theft.
