Noah Wyle expressed disbelief when People magazine announced him as the 2026 Sexiest Man Alive on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The 55-year-old actor questioned the validity of the news, believing it was a joke.

“I thought that sounded like a prank,” Wyle told the publication. “Just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me.” His wife, Sara Wells, helped him process the recognition. He credited her support as a husband and father for shaping his response to the award.

The selection follows Wyle’s recent professional achievements. He won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in both 2025 and 2026. Those awards recognized his performance as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in the HBO medical drama The Pitt.

Wyle originally gained fame as Dr. John Carter on NBC’s ER. That series premiered in 1994 and ended its run in 2009. The Pitt returns for its third season in January 2027.

The new title links Wyle to former ER co-star George Clooney. Clooney has received the People distinction twice. Wyle joked that Clooney would feel like a proud parent upon hearing the news. He said he expects his own family to tease him about the honor.

Wyle succeeds Jonathan Bailey, who held the title in 2025. People has awarded the annual distinction since 1985.
