Caresha Romeka Brownlee, who performs as Yung Miami, released her first solo album, "Watch Dis," and marked the occasion with a listening party Thursday, Oct. 29. The event was hosted by 103.5 The Beat at Privé 954 Restaurant & Lounge. She arrived to "Take Me to Chanel" and raised a glass of rosé with fans in attendance.
The conversation that followed covered her career and personal life. Brownlee grew up in Opa-locka and said Miami shaped how she carries herself. She also discussed her falling out with JT, the other half of City Girls, and said Diddy played no part in their split. She declined to go further than her music on that point. "I wrote a song. The song is how I feel. I put my feelings into the song, and that's just what it is," she said.
The song she referenced is "Dear JT," which appears as track 19 on the album and recounts their friendship. Its chorus repeats, "I'm missin' you. I'm missin' you. Tell me where the road turns." The album includes work with Trina, Rick Ross, Travis Scott and others, and Brownlee named "Baby," featuring Pleasure P, as her current favorite track: "That's my favorite song right now, right now."
Her week included a record signing at Sweat Records in Miami ahead of Thursday's gathering. She also spoke about "Caresha Please," her interview show, and named Tyler Perry as the guest she would book if the program returned. She said she wants to discuss movies and acting, and that she is ready to act herself. A fan's message of encouragement later moved her to tears during the event.
"I feel very blessed, happy and blessed," she said when asked about the album's release. Brownlee also described a turnoff in dating: a man who "smells like outside," adding, "I just want a man that smells good." "Watch Dis" is her first solo project following her time in City Girls.
