More than 365,000 residents of Travis County have already cast ballots before Tuesday's midterm election. These unofficial figures from county election officials mark the highest early in-person turnout for a midterm contest in the county's history.
The current count represents 38.3 percent of the 952,713 registered voters in the area. Election officials also recorded 1,919 provisional ballots as of Thursday afternoon.
The previous benchmark came from the 2018 midterm cycle. According to the Texas Secretary of State's Office, 350,218 voters cast in-person early ballots that year. When mail-in votes were included, the total reached 368,048.
Voters in the county are deciding several high-profile races. The U.S. Senate seat is contested between Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Democratic State Representative James Talarico. For Texas governor, incumbent Greg Abbott faces Democratic State Representative Gina Hinojosa.
The ballot also includes contests for lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, agriculture commissioner, railroad commissioner, and land commissioner. Voters in certain districts will choose Texas Senate representatives. Ballots for U.S. House and Texas House seats are also on the list.
Early voting began on October 19 and concludes on Friday, October 30.
