Texas Republicans face a major strategic shift as Democrats now hold the House, the Senate, and all statewide offices in the state. Sen. Ted Cruz addressed the losses in a podcast episode released on Wednesday.

Cruz identified the cost of living as the primary reason voters abandoned the party. He pointed to rising gas prices, higher grocery bills, and increased insurance costs. He argued that the GOP failed to adequately address this financial pain during the campaign.

The senator also called for an end to the conflict with Iran. He stated the war should have been brief and decisive. Cruz said the party must now champion economic policies that directly affect working families and deal with the consequences of the election.

Cruz spoke with James Talarico by phone to congratulate him on his victory. He expressed a desire to work together for the benefit of Texas. However, Cruz vowed to fight against policies that open the border or raise taxes.

The senator highlighted two legislative wins that he believes were not widely known by voters. He cited the creation of Trump accounts and the Education Freedom Tax Credit. He described both measures as generationally powerful tools for the state.
