Demarco Jeremiah Vines, 34, of Roseville, allegedly rammed his vehicle into a police cruiser and fled on foot with a knife after a high-speed chase through Macomb County. Vines was arraigned in Eastpointe on Friday following the incident, which began with a reported felonious assault.

Macomb County officials state that Eastpointe police attempted to pull Vines over at 2:30 a.m. on Friday. Vines allegedly drove away, initiating a pursuit. During the chase, he drove into oncoming traffic toward a sergeant before colliding with and damaging another officer’s vehicle near Gratiot Avenue.

The pursuit concluded near 8 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue when a second officer crashed their car into Vines’ vehicle. Vines exited his car and ran from the scene carrying a knife. Warren police later located and arrested him.

Vines faces a third-degree felony for fleeing from police, which carries a maximum sentence of five years. He also faces two counts of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, a four-year felony, and one count of assaulting or resisting an officer, a two-year felony.

The court set Vines’ bond at $750,000. If he posts the bond, Vines must wear a GPS tether, remain under house arrest, and refrain from driving. His probable cause conference is scheduled for Nov. 17.
