The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night to claim their first World Series championship in franchise history.
Jacob Misiorowski started on four days of rest and threw five and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. He left the game due to a right calf cramp but received a standing ovation from fans in the Brew-Crew section. The 22-year-old pitcher had previously broken the Series velocity record with a 103.5 mph fastball on the first pitch of the tournament. He recorded 58 strikes in 86 pitches, topping 103 mph twice.
Rookie Cooper Pratt set a Series record with six consecutive hits before a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. He gave Milwaukee an early lead with a single off Rays ace Drew Rasmussen in the second inning. Pratt also scored on a David Hamilton single in the fifth. Jackson Chourio finished the Series with 11 hits, setting a five-game record for a World Series.
William Contreras hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to extend the lead. Pratt followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0. The Brewers bullpen, including JoJo Romero, Abner Uribe, and closer Trevor Megill, held the Rays to one run. Megill retired Richie Palacios on a grounder to end the game.
This is the first championship for the franchise since 1969. The team began as the Seattle Pilots and moved to Milwaukee the following year. Their only previous World Series appearance in 1982 ended in a 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals after blowing a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning of Game 7. Manager Pat Murphy, who won the NL Manager of the Year award in 2024 and 2025, led the team through the postseason.
The Brewers led the majors with 103 regular-season wins and posted an 11-2 record in the playoffs. They swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series. The team scored a major league-low 32.1% of its runs on home runs, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Rays, who debuted in 1998, have now lost their first three World Series appearances. They became the fifth team to fall behind 3-0 and lose in Game 5. This was the first Series since 1991 between teams in the bottom half of payrolls, with Milwaukee ranked 19th and Tampa Bay 25th as of August 31.
The victory comes as baseball owners push for a salary cap, arguing that small-market teams struggle to succeed. A management lockout is likely to start December 2 and could affect the 2027 season. Milwaukee’s previous MLB championship was won by the Braves in 1957 before they moved to Atlanta in 1966.
