Governor-elect David Crowley declared that lowering costs for Wisconsin families will be his top priority when he assumes office in January. He made the promise during his first public appearance since winning Tuesday’s election.

Crowley pledged to reduce expenses for housing, utilities, health care, and child care. He stated that working families and their quality of life will drive every decision his administration makes over the next four years.

The governor-elect appeared Wednesday morning at ThriveOn King on North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Lieutenant Governor-elect Sarah Godlewski opened the event by sharing financial concerns she heard from voters during the campaign.

Crowley said he would deliver property tax relief without shifting those costs to local governments. He also promised to expand access to affordable health care, strengthen public schools, and create pathways to well-paying jobs.

He outlined plans to support small businesses, expand apprenticeship opportunities, and continue infrastructure investments. Crowley said the state will measure its success by whether life improves for all families in Wisconsin.

Reporters pressed Crowley for specific legislation he intends to pursue. He declined to identify particular bills, noting that discussions with legislative leaders had just begun.

Crowley said the team was less than 24 hours from knowing they had won the race. He described the group as basking in the victory of a Democratic trifecta while acknowledging that hard work begins immediately.

His immediate focus is building a transition team and cabinet that represent the entire state. Crowley said he wants officials with subject-matter expertise who understand Wisconsin communities and can build relationships with local governments.

He emphasized that Governor Tony Evers remains in charge through January 3, 2027. Crowley promised to work closely with the outgoing administration to ensure a smooth transfer of power.

Crowley confirmed that he will resign as Milwaukee County Executive before the end of the year. His resignation must occur by late December to allow time for an election to be called and nomination papers to be circulated for the spring election.
