Sen. Ted Cruz stated on Friday that Republicans would lose both chambers of Congress if the election were held today based solely on early vote totals. Speaking on his podcast, The Verdict, the Texas Republican described the current polling data as a "bloodbath" for his party if only the votes cast so far were counted.
Cruz cited massive Democratic turnout as the primary driver of this shift. He noted that Democratic voters are showing up in record numbers for a midterm cycle, fueled by a strong desire to unseat President Donald Trump. The senator argued that these trends are visible across the country and are not merely a product of flawed polling methodologies.
The timeline for this shift began with the release of new early voting statistics. Cruz acknowledged that while polls often skew slightly left, the volume of data collected from his own campaign experiences confirms the accuracy of the current numbers. He rejected the idea that the data is fabricated, emphasizing that the gap between the parties is too large to ignore.
The situation in Texas is particularly tight, according to Cruz. He warned that the state could lose every single statewide race, including the governor’s office and the Senate seat. Current polls show Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico leading Republican opponent Ken Paxton. Additionally, Democratic gubernatorial challenger Gina Hinojosa is closely trailing incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott.
Cruz identified this cycle as the most important midterm election of his lifetime. He called for a correction in voter turnout, stating that Democrats are massively out-turning Republicans. The senator urged his base to recognize the urgency of the situation rather than dismissing the evidence presented by the voting numbers.
The warning comes as other prominent figures in the Trump-aligned movement also push for a Republican victory. Elon Musk, who has faced scrutiny over regulatory investigations into his companies, warned that a Democratic sweep would mark the end of American democracy. Meanwhile, President Trump recently suggested Cruz would make an ideal Supreme Court justice, citing his ability to appeal to voters across the political spectrum.
The next major step in this cycle is the counting of the remaining early votes and the general election in November. Cruz’s assessment relies on the premise that early voting trends will hold through Election Day. The senator’s comments set a dire tone for the final weeks of the campaign in Texas and other key battleground states.
