Fort Worth hip-hop artist Benny Smoke released a new single titled "Wobble." The 38-year-old musician has performed in the local scene since around 2009 at venues such as Lola’s Saloon and the Granada Theater.

The track features a heavy beat from the 1990s era. Smoke described the song as an anthem for change. He said the lyrics target those who harm the environment for the benefit of the wealthy. "With 'Wobble,' it’s something that gives back to the whole culture of hip-hop," he stated.

Smoke grew up on the South Side of Fort Worth. He described that area as surrounded by drug dealers, gangs, and graffiti. The new song references his past life. He aims to motivate listeners rather than denigrate them. The lyrics include lines about seeking faith and replacing what is human under the skin.

Smoke handled the recording, mixing, and mastering at his home studio. He used his phone to complete the track. This method gave the music a raw energy. Rice Master Yen, a producer from Germany, produced the song.

The artist is working on a debut album that does not have a name yet. He released nine singles and four EPs in the last few years. He is also creating beats for other artists to sample. "I’m putting out beats [that other artists sample] and pushing my material," Smoke said. He is focusing on a concept album that blends hip-hop and cannabis culture.

Smoke cites Erykah Badu, Wiz Khalifa, and Larry June as influences. He wants to pass that energy to other people. He noted that seeing audiences respond to his stories gives them hope. He performs to drive others toward action based on what influenced him as a child.

Smoke will perform at Haltom Theater on Friday, October 30. The event starts at 7 p.m. All proceeds will go to the family of Derek Jones. Jones was a close friend who recently died by suicide. Other acts include DJ Nox, Terry Johnson, Wreckless Harmony, and Slug Dlo. Tickets cost $10.38.
