Hillsborough Extension offers free classes for yard and wallet

Hillsborough County Extension Service is scheduling a series of practical classes for November. The programs cover topics ranging from growing local plants to managing personal credit.

Experts from the service design these sessions to help residents save water and improve their financial standing. Most offerings are open to beginners and residents from across the county.

The schedule includes five Florida-Friendly Landscaping workshops. Sessions address mulching, pest control, and yard waste recycling. Dates range from Nov. 4 to Nov. 25. Two of these events will be held in person, while others are virtual.

Water conservation topics appear in two in-person workshops on Nov. 7. One session focuses on microirrigation, and the other covers rainwater harvesting. A virtual webinar on protecting waterfronts is set for Nov. 19.

Financial education is available through a credit report webinar on Nov. 4. Residents can also book one-on-one appointments or take a self-paced online class called Financial Building Blocks. These financial resources are available throughout the month.

Ag professionals can attend training events on Nov. 10 and Nov. 12. These include an aquatic exam prep course and a nursery grower update. A walk and talk on trees and fungi is scheduled for Nov. 10. Advance registration is required for most classes. Residents can call 813-744-5519 or check the online calendar for details.
