Five eastbound lanes of the Katy Freeway will close overnight on Thursday, creating a major bottleneck for traffic heading toward the West Loop. The closure affects the stretch between Silber Road and the I-610 West Loop and U.S. 290 direct connector. Drivers face a complete shutdown of the direct ramp during the work window.
Houston TranStar’s construction schedule lists the start time for 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 29. The lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on Friday. This eight hour window targets the specific segment where I-10 meets the loop connector. The closure is weather permitting, meaning TranStar may cancel the work if conditions turn adverse.
Commuters must use a designated detour during the closure. The direct connector ramp will be fully closed. Drivers on eastbound I-10 must continue past the usual exit to reach Exit 764. From there, they must perform a U turn and reenter the highway to take Exit 762B for I-610. This route adds extra distance and time compared to the standard path.
The work is part of routine maintenance on the freeway infrastructure. TranStar advises motorists to plan the detour before entering the highway. The agency notes that construction closures can be canceled for reasons beyond weather, including other operational circumstances. Drivers should check for real time updates before departing on Thursday night.
