The University of New Mexico will hold the final Faculty Lightning Lounge of the semester on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The series began earlier in the academic year to give faculty members a venue for brief discussions on their professional work. The program is designed to allow scholars from various departments to share insights on research, creative projects, and instructional methods. Each session allocates time for audience questions and informal networking among participants.

The event is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Stamm Commons within the Centennial Engineering Center. Admission is open to faculty, staff, students, and members of the community without a prior registration requirement.

Four presenters are confirmed for the November lineup. Eva Chi, a professor and Regents’ Lecturer of chemical and biological engineering, will discuss the topic “AI as a Bright But Untrustworthy Assistant.” Natasha Howard, an assistant professor of geography and environmental studies and Africana studies, will present “How Research and Teaching Inform One Another.” Laura de Lorenzo, a senior lecturer III and director of the biochemistry program, is also on the schedule. Stephanie Sanchez, a manager of student support for the Center for Teaching and Learning and adjunct lecturer in Chicana and Chicano Studies, will speak on “Thinking Boldly: Intellectual Risk-Taking in Chicana/O/X Studies.”

The program is hosted by ADVANCE at UNM, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Office of Academic Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President for Research. Christopher Lyons, assistant vice provost for faculty affairs, serves as the point of contact for those wishing to present or recommend candidates for future events. Interested parties may reach him via email at clyons@unm.edu or advance@unm.edu.
