María Corina Machado returned to Venezuela on Sunday after several failed attempts to enter the country. She held a public address on Thursday at noon, marking her first media appearance since her arrival.
The opposition leader stated that the three days since her return confirm that the transition is irreversible. She asserted that the three-phase plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump for Venezuela is moving forward. Machado identified herself as the Nobel Peace Prize laureate during the briefing.
On Wednesday, Machado traveled to the coastal state of La Guaira. This region was the most severely impacted by the double earthquake that struck on June 24. She visited multiple sectors within the area to meet with residents affected by the disaster. Her campaign team, Comando con Venezuela, shared photos and videos of the trip on X. The group noted that her priority was to be in Vargas, the former name of the state, alongside local families.
Machado reported observing the destruction and damage caused by the events of June 24 firsthand. Her team stated that listening to the stories of the victims reinforced a commitment to support the affected communities. They described the experience as a way to reaffirm that the people would not be left alone in their recovery efforts.
Since entering the country from the western state of Lara, Machado has engaged with various political groups. She met with members of her party, Vente Venezuela, and the main opposition coalition, Plataforma Unitaria Democrática. She also spoke with the Alianza por Venezuela, a group comprising smaller social and political organizations. Additionally, she met with families of political prisoners and victims of human rights violations.
Her initial public appearance occurred during a vehicle caravans that moved from Lara to Caracas. The trip served as a symbolic return to the capital. The Thursday press conference was scheduled as the first formal media engagement following her physical presence in the country.
