Investigators are determining whether speed played a role in a collision that killed two residents of Fallston. The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues its review of the incident that occurred on Halloween night.

The crash took place shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, at the intersection of Jarrettsville Pike and Hess Road. Kimberly Anne Miller, 60, was driving a Volvo XC60 eastbound on Hess Road with her husband, Brian Walter Miller, 61, in the passenger seat. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Matthew Thomson Howard Waylett, 19, of Monkton, was driving a Volkswagen Passat southbound on Jarrettsville Pike when the vehicles collided. He survived the impact and was airlifted to a trauma center via a Maryland State Police helicopter. Authorities have not released an update regarding his current condition.

Preliminary findings indicate the two vehicles struck each other at the junction. Police have not identified which driver, if either, was exceeding the speed limit. The specific circumstances leading up to the impact remain under active investigation.

The roadway remained closed for more than three hours following the accident. Harford County Sheriff's Office deputies and state highway officials assisted state police at the scene while they gathered evidence and sketched the layout of the collision.
