East Lansing police are investigating two shootings and two pedestrian strikes that occurred near Michigan State University over the weekend.

The surge in incidents led the local fire department to log 91 calls within a single 24-hour period. Officers recovered multiple firearms and detained several individuals in connection with the events. Both pedestrians who were hit by vehicles remain in stable condition. In each crash, police arrested the driver on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

The violence began just after midnight on Sunday near M.A.C Avenue and Linden Street. Three people were shot in the area, which contains student and sorority housing. Later that night, a second shooting occurred near Stoddard Avenue and Frye Street. Two people suffered gunshot wounds in that location. Medical personnel expect both victims to recover.

Chief Jennifer Brown of the East Lansing Police Department noted the heavy volume of work for first responders. She stated that the fire department responded to 91 incidents over 24 hours, with 75 of those calls happening overnight. Brown described the night as an all-hands-on-deck situation for the crew.

Police have not released further details on the causes of the gunfire or the specific circumstances surrounding the arrests. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the weekend events.
