The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning for Once Upon a Farm Tractor Wheels bars after the snack reportedly caused complete airway obstruction in toddlers. The agency stated that the product forms a dry, sticky mass when chewed, a consistency that can defeat standard first aid measures like back blows or the Heimlich maneuver.
Once Upon a Farm is voluntarily recalling all Tractor Wheels soft-baked bars. The action covers every flavor, quantity, and variety, including all lot codes and expiration dates. The company identified three specific reports of potential choking hazards, while the FDA confirmed it received several reports of children being unable to breathe after consumption.
The recall includes Apple, Sweet Potato, & Spinach Tractor Wheels; Strawberry, Pumpkin, & Beet Tractor Wheels; and Banana, Pumpkin & Cauliflower Tractor Wheels. CEO John Foraker said the company is reformulating the bars to ensure they adhere to the highest standards. He noted that the company's mission is to drive systemic improvement in childhood nutrition by doing what is right for customers.
The bars are available at most grocery and retail stores across the United States. Stock includes locations at Costco, Target, Walmart, and Amazon.com. The FDA stated that some reported incidents required emergency response intervention and hospital observation.
Customers should not open or consume the recalled products. The company urges buyers to return the items to the point of purchase for a full refund. Alternatively, consumers can contact care@uponafarm.com. No other Once Upon a Farm products are impacted by this recall.
