Timothy Langford, M.D., received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Arkansas State University on Oct. 24 during the halftime of a football game in Jonesboro. The award is the highest honor given by the A-State Alumni Association. Langford was one of three alumni recognized on the field during the Red Wolves' match against Georgia State.

The selection process involved nominations from fellow alumni and supporters, with the final choice made by the association's board of directors. Langford graduated from A-State in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in zoology and pre-medicine. He played quarterback for the Red Wolves from 1980 to 1983, earning All-Southland Conference honors. He has since been inducted into the athletic department's Hall of Honor and the football program's Ring of Honor. As a senior, he won the university's first Terry Gwin Award, given annually to the top student athlete.

Langford's professional path has centered in Arkansas medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1988 and completed his urology residency there. He spent 28 years at Arkansas Urology, serving as president and medical director of the state's largest urology practice. He returned to UAMS in 2021 and currently serves as the chair of the Department of Urology. In November 2025, he was named to the Steven K. Wilson Endowed Chair in Prosthetic Urology. His clinical practice focuses on prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, male voiding dysfunction, and robotic surgery.

His connection to Arkansas State extends beyond his student years. Langford was appointed to the university's Board of Trustees in 2014 and reappointed in 2019. He served until he was named trustee emeritus. In 2004, he and his wife, Terri, made a major gift to establish the Tim and Terri Langford Sports Medicine Center. He has also held leadership roles with Baptist Health and the South Central Section of the American Urological Association.

Natalie Rogers, president of the Alumni Association, stated that the award recognizes graduates whose accomplishments bring honor to the university through professional achievement, service, and leadership. She noted that Langford and the other two honorees have made lasting impacts in their professions and communities. The other recipients were Phillip Poston, a 1996 marketing graduate and businessman based in Jonesboro, and Billy Don Tiner, a 1972 zoology graduate and retired U.S. Navy captain living in San Antonio.

Poston is recognized for his leadership in economic development and workforce advancement. Tiner is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon known for his military service and philanthropy. Both men have provided educational and athletic support to the university.

Langford credited the university with providing the foundation for his career. He said the experiences and relationships formed at A-State prepared him for his current role at UAMS. He expressed gratitude to his alma mater for the recognition.

The ceremony took place on the field at the homecoming game. The award acknowledges professional success alongside service to the institution. Langford continues to lead the urology department at UAMS while maintaining his ties to Arkansas State.
