President Donald Trump faces renewed pressure to step down following the midterm elections, according to Jimmy Kimmel, who demanded the chief executive resign on Wednesday night. The call for Trump to leave office comes after Democrats secured majorities in both the House and Senate, marking a historic shift in national power.
The election results showed a broad rejection of the Republican ticket, with losses occurring in deep-red states such as South Carolina and Texas. In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, lost his seat despite Trump having hand-picked the candidate. Democrats also gained ground in other states, solidifying their control of the federal government.
Kimmel directed his criticism at Trump's immediate reaction to the defeat. The president publicly blamed Fox News for covering Democratic candidates and accused Abbott of being responsible for his own loss. Kimmel argued that Trump is attempting to shift the blame away from himself, a tactic the host described as typical behavior in the face of losing.
“In the face of defeat, he is doing what he does best: blaming everyone other than him,” Kimmel said during the broadcast. He urged the president to stop speaking and allow the country a moment of peace. The host questioned whether Trump had ever learned basic manners or sportsmanship.
The host highlighted the irony of Trump insisting his losses were caused by his decision not to run for office this year. Kimmel countered that Trump remained a dominant presence on the ballot and in public life. “That is such crap! You were on the ballot. You’re like dog hair. You’re on everything. You’ve infected every nook and cranny of our lives,” Kimmel said.
Kimmel also addressed the Republican base, noting that many had previously supported Trump but switched to vote for Democrats in this cycle. He criticized those who remained loyal to the president, only to find him blaming them for the party's defeat. “Now you see he has no loyalty to anyone other than himself. He isn’t just gonna throw you under the bus. He’s gonna drive it,” he said.
The monologue concluded with a direct instruction for Trump to quit. Kimmel suggested the president use his crypto money to buy an island, specifically naming Epstein’s island as a fitting final destination. The audience cheered as the host delivered his final verdict on the administration's performance.
